Ti Gr. 5 fastener with chersterton 785 and loctite

Ti Gr. 5 fastener with chersterton 785 and loctite

(OP)
Hey,
I have a two procedures in front of me where one says that I should use chesterton 785 on the threads of a Ti fastener and some loctite on the fastener head, the other says the opposite..

Should I use chersterton 785 on the threads to minimize the risk of galling? Between, the fastener and nut are of the same material.

thanks!

RE: Ti Gr. 5 fastener with chersterton 785 and loctite

What Loctite product?  A thread adhesive would make sense for the threads, but they make sealants as well, and that could be applied to the head.

Chesterton 785 is a lubricant to provent galling, so its use on threads makes most sense.

Cory

I'm sure it's a sealant, but i'll investigate on monday.

Thank you

I'd be concerned with the lubricant interferring with the Loctite curing if the lubricant is applied to the threads and wipes up to the fastener head.  The Loctite will act as a lubricant when applied to the threads, then cure to lock and seal the threads.

That true, but would you put chersterton on the fastener head?
I dare not remove chersterton from the procedure..

What surface does the bolt rotate against?  An anti-galling lube isn't likely to help if you put it on the head.

Cory
