copper corrosion protection

Hi,

I am fairly familiar with the use of anodizing/alodining aluminum surfaces to prevent corrosion, but are there similar processes for copper?  I have 110-alloy electrical grade copper shims which I would like to treat, and the coating should be RoHS-compliant.  Thanks in advance.

RE: copper corrosion protection

The only protective coating we used with Cu was Ni with copper gaskets and Ag with electrical components.

RE: copper corrosion protection

What environment?  Cu is passive for many environments.

Regards,

Cory

The copper shims are to be placed between MDR connectors and an alodined aluminum back plate inside a camera.  EMI shielding is a requirement, so we are trying to prevent any loss of conductivity in the copper.  As far as I'm aware, the camera is to be used in normal ambient indoor conditions.

RE: copper corrosion protection

Silver over Cu is quite common on electrical connections like the buss bars in substations. The conductivity actually will increase under certain conditions.

There a kits available from my electrical supply houses that can do small silver plating jobs for testing.
