Runway thru Building Expansion Joint

Runway thru Building Expansion Joint

I have two underhung bridge crane runways each side of a building expansion joint that are not currently connected together. The Owner desires that we hook them together.

What detail is normally used so that the crane wheels do not bump across this 1" joint?

RE: Runway thru Building Expansion Joint

THe better way is to change the runway hanging detail to accomodate expansion/contraction of the building frame.

I agree this would be the way if designing a new system but it is not practical to do this on this existing system.

RE: Runway thru Building Expansion Joint

Weld the two rails into one continuous rail,(which takes away the expansion close to the rail).  Revise rail hanger details near the expansion joint to either long slotted holes or hanging supports which may sway in the longitudinal axis.
