Setting the NX 'File Open' dialog defaults

Setting the NX 'File Open' dialog defaults

(OP)
As some of you may have learned, there is no provision for changing AND saving the display options for the NX 'File Open' dialog.  Since the inception of the file previews, users have asked if there was a way to change the default setting for the display of the 'Windows' explorer dialog that comes up when you do a 'File Open' to show the Thumbnails instead of the default List.

Anyway, to make a long story short, the application, NOT Windows, is responsible for this behavior but it turns out that Microsoft has provided virtually no tools to control this from with an application and our people just didn't want to start hacking this code, so we've never provided any support for other than the Windows default which is 'List'.

Anyway, it seems that NX users were not the only people looking for relief in this area and some creative programmer down in Kiwi land (i.e., New Zealand) put together a little utility that runs in the Windows environment which will give you complete control over the 'File Open' dialogs of all of the applications on your system (they do provide a scheme to exempt any programs that you wish).  We assume that this is just a utility that runs when Windows starts and overrides the settings of the 'File Open' code for your Windows session thus impacting all of the applications on the system (thus the fact that they can ONLY provide an exemption scheme).

Anyway, it downloads really quick and it's freeware so the price seems right winky smile  It seems to works fine and does not prevent you from changing the display option when using the 'File Open' dialog, just that the default setting is now under the control of this utility, and NOT Windows.

Disclaimer:  I can't take credit for finding this as it was posted on other NX help board and I'm just passing it along.
