Ultrasoinc Impact Treatment questions

(OP)
Does anyone have any good information about Ultrasoinc Impact Treatment (UIT)?  I searched the achrives and found a few posts that mention UIT, but not much.  The websites that are written to sound like a bunch of hype.  I suspect, like cyrogenic treatments and vibratory stress relief, there is some soild science behind the process.  But, when I read a website that talks about "compacting the metal molecules" or "reducing the grain size at the surface", I find it hard to take anything else that follows very seriously.

So, what's the skinny?  Will it really improve corrosion resistance, improve fatigue resistance, and birghten my sheets, all at the same time?  If so, how does it do it?
