Hanging a Really Big tube chime
Hanging a Really Big tube chime
(OP)
OK. So I've learned that there are four Primary nodes on a chime, .2242 X L from each end. The steal tube I have is 99" long, .5" thick and 2'2" in diameter and weighs 1200 lbs.
Can it be hung horizontal instead of vertical? I mean can it be hung at the nodes from each end? If I hang it vertical then I need something ten feet high or more to hang it from. If I hung it on the nodes from each end instead of one end will it change the sound? Does it matter?

RE: Hanging a Really Big tube chime
hit it with a screwdriver, then run the screwdriver down its length. You should be able to feel the nodes.
You may change the harmonics but you won't change the fundamental with a 2 point suspension.
