Hi There,

I used AASHTO a while ago and wonder if there is someone who can provide excel spreadsheets for the design of steel box sections and piles in accordance with latest AASHTO LRFD standards.

Thanks

cally

RE: lrfd steel structures spreadsheets

Cally, I would highly recommend developing your own spreadsheet. Not only is it rewarding but you'll also know exactly what is contained within it.

Thanks Jnadeay,

I just wanted to cut short on time and see if I have not missed anything.
I have already done it but just wanted to see if there is some check left or if the results are okay.

Regards,

RE: lrfd steel structures spreadsheets

Best not to check spreadsheets with spreadsheets both could be making the exact same calculation error.

A much better method is to check it using something completely different like hand calcs e.t.c.

csd.

Many thanks for this invluable suggestion.
Regards.

RE: lrfd steel structures spreadsheets

All spreadsheets have errors, only the guys who know what they are doing will pick up on them.

I have noticed from my time in the design office that the most knowlegable engineers are the guys who get into the computer programming. They tend to have a far better understanding on the behaviour of materials because of the solid research they do in order to get their programs running.

True.

Well now a days no two structures you will find are similar and as soon as geometry changes you will have to make your own spreadsheet. My idea of having a sheet was to at least check with the code that what checks are to be undertaken quickly and then use that information to do my own work.
It's vary unlikely that I will be able to use that spreadhseet like a structural package. I have been in the industry for almost 15 years os I know what causes errors.

So again if anyone has few spreadsheets to check a steel box section as per LRFD AASHTO, Could they please forward it to me.

Thanks

Cally.
