Compression Spring Failure - Here is the solution
Compression Spring Failure - Here is the solution
(OP)
Last year I posed a question in a thread regarding a compression spring that was failing under cyclic testing. thread693-193540: Compression spring failure - breaking tips off sqrd & ground ends
For those that tried to help, I thought you might be interested how I eventually solved the problem.
I eventually realised that during the compression, the spring is very inclined to buckle and also needs to rotate approx 1/4 turn (from memory). I added a central spigot to support the spring from buckling and this nearly solved it, but the addition of some grease during assembly to allow free rotation under compression was what was really needed.
Thanks again to all that responded to the original post.
Ian.
