I am looking for a combo Corona (Daylight) and IR camera for applications in areial transmission scanning. Anyone know of any? Or am I better off with 2 different cameras?

RE: IR / Corona

Zogzog,

CSIR out of South Africa make a combo camera.  The following links take you to the page on how it works and screen dumps, and also to the main list of products.

We have extensive experience in IR survey work in Australia, but are only now looking into corona work, and the main issue we find with this unit is the IR part is not of great quality, compared to  FLIR or similar cameras.  Personally, I would probably go with 2 separate cameras, that way you have less that can go wrong on the one camera, and can also perform 2 different tasks at the one time on separate equipment.  The other issue we have is that at our voltage level, our designs are not corona free, so we will always have corona, it just depends on where it is as to whether it is a problem.  We have used it to pinpoint external PD problems on circuit breakers and bushings though.

Thanks for the input, this will be used froma helicopter so we were thinking 1 camera would be easier to handle.

RE: IR / Corona

I suggest to use FLIR for your inspection requirement. They have excellent support and can help you to find the best tools for your inspection
