Vane Material Identification

Vane Material Identification

Vane Material Identification

(OP)
Can anyone give me a best estimate on what material is used to fabricate the pneumatic air motor vane, shown in the photo attached?

As can be seen, it has a slight orange color and appears to be slightly fiberous.

I would like to find a material source and understand how to mold and/or machine components similar to this vane.

thanks in advance for your interest and help

RE: Vane Material Identification

My best guess is glass fiber-reinforced phenolic.

Can't help with the other questions.

Cory

RE: Vane Material Identification

I'm familiar with the vanes but don't know the exact material. It is probably a phenolic resin with cotton fabric in it. It is not glass as glass is very abrasive. Several companies matufacture sheets of composites like this and you can buy it from McMaster-Carr.

Or you can look up the properties of most materials free at www.matweb.com
