Help-Stainless and Brass with Saltwater?

Help-Stainless and Brass with Saltwater?

Help-Stainless and Brass with Saltwater?

(OP)
I have a brass pump used to move saltwater (Marine Raw Water A/C pump).  Can I use Stainless Couplings screwed in to the pump to connect the hoses or will electrolysis eat up the pump?  Is there away to minimize the electrolysis (ex. Tefgel or Teflon tape)?

RE: Help-Stainless and Brass with Saltwater?

Your brass may have a limited life anyway, but don't couple it to SS or you will drastically shorten the life.  Use a section of brass pipe and a heavy brass coupling if you have to transition to SS.  That way you can replace the coupling and/or part of the pipe periodically.
Better yet use non-metallic pipe and then you won't have the worry.

RE: Help-Stainless and Brass with Saltwater?

I can only say - avoid mechanical fittings for CRES connections and seawater - you WILL see crevice corrosion, it's just a matter of statistics.

I also need to ask [for curiosity] - is the vessel private, commercial, or Coast Guard?
