Steel Beam Lintle Torsional Reaction Support
Steel Beam Lintle Torsional Reaction Support
(OP)
I am looking at designing a new beam lintel, 14 feet long, supporting 8" CMU with brick veneer. Attached to the veneer will be a fabric canopy cantilevered from the face of the building. If the beam were to be located concentric on the CMU with a plate supporting the brick, as typically seen, the beam will be torqued quite a bit. Designing the beam under torsion is not an issue. The question is how to support the torsion forces in the supporting masonry wall, which is most likely unreinforced. Does anyone know of a simple solution? Thanks in advance.

Not your question, but when you say the fabric canopy is cantilevered from the veneer, that should not be done. Connect it to reinforced blockwork or steel.
