Column Strength for that Tonnage and Length requires a 3.5-4" Rod diameter Rod.

Most manufactures of custom hydraulic cylinders should be able to provide you with a suitable cylinder if you provide the above information.

On the other hand, if you could lift the load by using the cylinder on the retract stroke the rod would be in tension and tensile strength and piston attachment method would be the only consideration.
All cylinder manufacturers have information on Piston Rod sizing for Column Strenh, Bearing Loads and Stop Tube requirements in their catalogs and most cylinder salesman will work with you to make sure the cylinder application is sized correctly for your needs. Did that for years.
