Chilled Water Coil Failures

Chilled Water Coil Failures

Chilled Water Coil Failures

(OP)
Colleagues,
My facility is experiencing multiple chilled water coil failures in a new facility that is less than one year old that is ties into a TES system that has been in existence for 8 years.
A little history on my tes system, 2.6 million capacity,1 ~ 2 miles of piping, water treatment consist of moly @ 150~180 ppm,  toly @ 2~3 ppm, ph @ 9.5~10 also this system has been tested for microbial activity with no positive results, meaning no bugs..
I have recently discussed this matter with an Eng. he mentioned stray currents, bonding, electrolysis. does any one have any facts or stories on this subject?

Many Thanks

Jesaire

RE: Chilled Water Coil Failures

Can you describe the coil leaks and their location? Also, what is the coil material?

RE: Chilled Water Coil Failures

Just how are the coils failing ?
Walls thinning - generally or specific spots ?
Micrometer wall thickness measurements - original vs. now
Pinholes ?
Colors of deposits ? - buildup?
Pictures ?

And in addition:

Welds?
Stress by cooling, warming,expansion-contraction and to thight clamping/fastening?
Quality of tubing and welding verified by certificates?
Manufacturer and installer well renowned?
