Generator Breaker
Generator Breaker
(OP)
Could someone advice on how to determine a generator breaker used for a prallelling or backup purposes? You can give a link as well if one exists.
When was the last time you drove down the highway without seeing a commercial truck hauling goods?

RE: Generator Breaker
Standby, minimum capability, marginally sized, lowest cost, usually a manually operated breaker with a shunt trip, and most times (but not always) a set of aux contacts. Standby market is heavily cost driven, any way to save a nickel.
For paralleling, motor operated, usually on smaller units 120 VAC charge and close with 24 VDC trip, and in some cases (but not always) an undervoltage release. Parallel applications are widely varied, so breaker selection starts to require more customer/engineer/designer input. We tried offering "standard" parallel capable breakers, but almost in all cases the customer needed something different.
Hope that helps a little.
