RECOMENDATION FOR CONCRETE TEXT

RECOMENDATION FOR CONCRETE TEXT

RECOMENDATION FOR CONCRETE TEXT

(OP)
Does anyone have a good recommendation for reinforced concrete text book or reference book that regards the IBC 2006 and/or CBC 2007?  I don't do much concrete design, and when it comes around, would love a great reference.

Thanks.

RE: RECOMENDATION FOR CONCRETE TEXT

MacGregor and Wight is an excellent concrete text.  I don't think a version is out that uses IBC 2006 (though I don't know why you would want that anyway, it just references ACI 318-05).
While the text references (I think ACI 318-02), it is excellent for behavior.  If you understand the behavior, then changing a few things such as phi factors is almost irrelevant.

RE: RECOMENDATION FOR CONCRETE TEXT

FWIW: The 5th edition of MacGregor/Wright's text just came out a few weeks ago (6/27/2008 according to Amazon). This new edition may have IBC 2006 updates.

If you want to save a few $$$'s you might want to check online places for used 4th editions. Based on replies to a similiar thread a month or so ago, I bought a slightly used 4th edition of this text for $38 (with shipping). New copies of the 5th edition are listed at $140 on Amazon.

It does seem to be a pretty good text.

Funny, I've got the 3rd addition (during college) ...and never like it.  Hope the 5th will be more enjoyable.  Thanks for the comments, guys.

RE: RECOMENDATION FOR CONCRETE TEXT

The 5th Edition of MacGregor/Wight is updated to the ACI318-08 code. ...I also like the 7th Edition of Wang/Salmon/Pincheira which is based on ACI318-05.

RE: RECOMENDATION FOR CONCRETE TEXT

I just received my 5th edition from Amazon after waiting for that very date mentioned by lkjh345.

"One of the most significant changes was the updating of all chapters to be in compliance with the 2008 edition of the ACI Building Code." [Page xii]

I thought I bought MacGregor/Wright at the recommendation of someone here.  I have been looking through it a bit but have yet to pour myself into it so I can't comment on it's layout or quality.  I had Wang/Salmon in college I always liked that book as well...
