Design of Rectangular Plates

Design of Rectangular Plates

Design of Rectangular Plates

(OP)
Hi,

I'm designing a wall for a tank and would like to know if anyone has a copy of

"Moments and Reactions for Rectangular Plates" from the Bureau Reclamation. The relevant sheet would be the one with the triagular distributed load.

Much appreciated.

RE: Design of Rectangular Plates

If anyone in your office has a copy of Roark, check that out, too.

StructuralEIT

No we don't have a copy of Roark.

RE: Design of Rectangular Plates

ataman,

you should ask them to get a copy. No engineering office should be without a copy of 'Roarkes stress and strains'.

RE: Design of Rectangular Plates

There's several cases of walls with triangular loads depending on fixity and the height of the load proportion to the height of plate.
As far as Roark, a lot of the plate cases are taken from the Bureau tables.  And they don't always get the maximum reaction, depending on their assumptions.  So be careful.

ataman,
look in the first site below, under Plates -> Simple bending -> Rectangular -> 3 supp.,1 free (or 3 clamped, 1 free) -> Hydro.load
