Bolt Edge Distance
Bolt Edge Distance
(OP)
Different edge distances are allowed depending on what type of edge is present on the steel (per AISC, AASHTO, AREMA, etc.). There are 2 classes, 1 is rolled or thremally cut, the other is sheared. My question is what about edges that have been sawed. To me sawing steel would be the same as rolled and thermally cut because the damage to the steel is not like when the steel is sheared, but that is just my guess. What do others allow/think......

Is thremally cut in the same class as sawed then?
RE: Bolt Edge Distance
On the other hand, it could be argued that saw-cutting is a form of shearing. I'm inclined not to argue that, but I could be persuaded.
