Instance Geometry not able to select datums (planes or axes)

Is there a reason why a part might not have the option to select datums for Instance Geometry?  Normally one can select datums (ie planes or axes) as candidate geometry to be instanced, but in one part, datums are not eligible for selection.  I've checked the selection filter list and datums are not an option.   Hopefully there is some toggle I can check to re-enable datum instancing...

RE: Instance Geometry not able to select datums (planes or axes)

So you want to instance the datums? Or use the datums as a reference point to instance by (ie, mirror body or array)? Your post sounds like the former of the two.

I just tried it (nx3) and it will let me select datums to instance, but it will not let me actually pick them (they don't show up on the instance filter, even though I selected them).

Translate works ok, but you probably don't want them floating around in a fixed location like that. What I would do is create said solid body, then instance that body... either that or do datum offset/angles.

hope this helps. Maybe someone else a little more knowledgeable can chime in.

Should have mentioned that this is in NX5.0.4.1

Need to actually Instance the datums (using the new Instance Geometry tool).

RE: Instance Geometry not able to select datums (planes or axes)

potero,

So in all other part files, you can instance datums?  If it's just one part file that you cannot, then try exporting the problem part into a new part file and see if that works.

If that doesn't work, then you might have to send the part into GTAC to have them find out what's wrong with it.

I have 5.0.4.2 installed and I can instance datums just fine.
