Rigid surface

Rigid surface

Hello,

I am trying to model a pipeline laying on a rigid surface to do some analysis. I have model my rigid surface as 3D analytical rigid. However, when run the analysis the pipeline goes through the rigid surface.
How can I make it no to go through and act as a solid ground.
Regards,

RE: Rigid surface

Have you set up contact in the Interaction module?

hello,

what do you mean by Interaction module?

can you please explain how can I set that?

I am modelling it as 3D analytical rigid so there is no need to mesh or spcify material properties.

RE: Rigid surface

I'm assuming that you are creating the model in CAE?  If so, then you need to specify a contact interaction between the rigid body and the meshed part.  You do this in the Interactions module in CAE.

If you are writing the input file some other way, then you need to make sure that there is either a *CONTACT PAIR definition or *CONTACT (Explicit only).

ABAQUS will not 'assume' there is contact - you have to specify that there is contact.

RE: Rigid surface

What about the pipeline itself? You must define a contact pair with the pipeline as one component and the rigid surface as the other. Just defining a surface as rigid is not sufficient to receive contact in the model.
