TI 64 vs. TI 6,6,2
TI 64 vs. TI 6,6,2
(OP)
I have a question. I've used TI64 in the past, no problem. However, I recently came across data that suggested that TI 6,6,2 is more wear resistant and impact resistant.
Can anybody shed a bit of light on this subject?
Thanks

RE: TI 64 vs. TI 6,6,2
Heat-treatable, high-strength Ti alloy with higher strength and section hardenability than Ti-6Al-4V, but with lower toughness and ductility, and limited weldability. Can be used in mill annealed or in the aged (very high strength) condition.
Ti-6-4 can be heat treated to higher strength, negating some of the differences.

RE: TI 64 vs. TI 6,6,2
According to the ASMH It's also more notch sensitive.
It might be more wear resitant, being a little harder, but data on that sort of thing is hard to come by.
Judging by the notched strengths and the fracture toughness it would be less impact resistant, not more.
