Can steam at ~450C be corrosive to CS or SS?

Can steam at ~450C be corrosive to CS or SS?

Can steam at ~450C  be corrosive to carbon steel, low alloy steel or stainless steel? And it would produce creep of steel? Can steam decompose into hydrogen and oxyen? Thanks a lot.

RE: Can steam at ~450C be corrosive to CS or SS?

esten;
Creep of low alloy steel will ocurr upon continuous exposure to 450 deg C service conditions.

Regarding steam service at 450 deg C, there is oxygen present to some extent that will result in oxidation. There was an excellent technical paper available over the Internet that listed corrosion rates in steam service for various steels;

NPL Report MATC(A)90

Title: Oxidation of Alloys in Steam Environment
A Review"

Thank you very much. I searched the paper through google, but the page has not been found. The URL is: http://www.npl.co.uk/server.php?show=conWebDoc.2061. So could you provide an available URL. Thanks in advance.

I would contact NPL directly and see if they can provide you the link for this paper. The paper may have been removed to allow for down-loading of more recent technical papers.
