Cosmetic threads on 1/2 part

Cosmetic threads on 1/2 part

How do I create a cosmetic thread on half a cylinder?
I have a 1/2 of sleeve/disk modeled and when i add the cosmetic thread, it will revolve 360 degrees around instead of the 180 deg. I tried cutting it with an extrusion and it wont go away. Eventually i need to add a rectangular plate on the bottom of the 1/2 disk

thanks guys

RE: Cosmetic threads on 1/2 part

Create your cosmetic thread as normal. Next create a surface on the flat surface.  Finally create a surface trim of the cosmetic using the flat surface.  The flat surface should disappear leaving just the threads on the 1/2 round.

Thanks fighterpilot

But what else can i trim with this feature. I noticed that it was grayed out (unavailable) when the cosmetic threads wasnt there.

RE: Cosmetic threads on 1/2 part

You mean what else can you use the surface trim feature for?  You can really trim any surface to another with it.   I always used them as I described the majority of the time.  Last place I worked was not really into funky surfaces so the surface trim feature use was limited except in the case I described.
