Welded construction of Tubesheet

Welded construction of Tubesheet

Welded construction of Tubesheet

(OP)
Would anyone be so kind as to enlighten me on the issues of creating a tubesheet of welded construction.  I am working a bid for some equipment and I am having trouble finding a disk in the diameter required.  I am afraid that the only viable option is to create the disk from 2-4 pieces of material.  Unfortunately, I have not encountered this problem and am weary of bidding on such.  Any help is appreciated.

What is the component that the tubesheet will be installed? You can purchase flat plate or forged plate that can be manufactured into a large diameter tubesheet. It all depends on the application.

RE: Welded construction of Tubesheet

Give us more information about your application.  Welded tubesheets connotes different meanings to those of us with different experiences.  Overlays are welded on tube sheets and tubesheet sections are welded together in certain appliccations but welding as an attachment means is not commonly done in the tube field area.

Give us some more to work with.

I am looking for a piece of N06625 1.5" thick and 156"OD to be used in a crystallizer.  Current supply of this material indicates that the maximum width is 96".  Therefore the disk would have to be welded from several pieces.  My concerns are how to control deformation, and what testing requirements should be implemented.

RE: Welded construction of Tubesheet

We had several tubesheet made by the process you describe. We had the materials, 316, 625, and 600 2.5"-3.0" prepped and welded by an outside vendor using a narrow groove procedure. As I recall there was very distortion using this approach. There was no problem in drilling the tube holes. The only problem occurred in the first one where the welds lined up with a row of tubes. Later designs prevented this.
