Pratt and Whitney FT8 Gas Turbine

Pratt and Whitney FT8 Gas Turbine

Pratt and Whitney FT8 Gas Turbine

(OP)
Pratt and Whitney are trying to sell us an FT8 Gas Turbine which was designed for 50 hz.  Our system is a 60 hz system.  The FT8 is designed such that the power turbine is a free power turbine, ie. it is only aerodynamically linked to the gas generator.  What are the issues we should be concerned about if any??  deration? effciency??  Please give some advice.

RE: Pratt and Whitney FT8 Gas Turbine

If your system is a 60 Hz project, the output revolution of your reduction gear unit must fit the revolution of the electric generator in order to obtain those 60 Hz. That means, of course, you will have a different efficiency (a small difference). Otherwise, you will not have any problem. In conclusion, your problem is in fact the reduction gearbox. unit.

RE: Pratt and Whitney FT8 Gas Turbine

I'm running an LM5000 with power turbine for 60hz application.  It should be just a control issue to get the speeds up for 60hz operation, unless the PW power turbine is specifically designed for 50hz.

Is this a twinpac application with the FT-8?

Denis
