Subsea Gaskets

Subsea Gaskets

Subsea Gaskets

(OP)
If a flange assembly has to be made up subsea, is there a special gasket type that must be used as required by code. I seem to remember that there was an API spec that talked about SRX gaskets but they were only used on really small diameter lines. Are regular R and RX gaskets acceptable for a subsea makeup? The flange assemblies I am looking at range from 6" to 16" OD.  Thanks

RE: Subsea Gaskets

It is not required by ISO 13629-1 but advice regarding trapping of water behind the gasket and its effects on sealing are discussed with the inference that API SBX, SRX, or other propietary gaskets offering weep holes may be a more acceptable selection.

RE: Subsea Gaskets

i think the standard is API 17D that covers SBX and SRX ring gaskets
