erosion of swimming pool copping stone

erosion of swimming pool copping stone

(OP)
Four years ago we built a swimming pool with a vinyl bottom. The pool is located in a hot and sunny location in the Middle East. For copping we used (unfortunately) a cheap fake Hebron marble. The pool is treated with salt ( a machine that turns salt into natural chlorine) and chlorine tablets. The water is always stable but the copping stone is crumbling into the pool and there are parts of the stone that have already large holes from the crumbling. I need some kind of product that will stop the crumbling, at least for the next 2 years until we replace the vinyl bottom. Until then we cannot replace the copping around the pool.
Thank you very much.

Coat the stone with polyurethane, (UV resistant).

Is the PH an issue in your pool?  Seems that a corosive pph level may be the issue???  Civilperson's suggestion may correct the crumbling until you need to replace the liner.  Also, you may want to look into a roll-on epoxy coating like in a garage application.  It may not look as good as the fake marble but could extend the life.  I think that type of coating is developed for chemical exposure.  Good Luck!
