Good Books on Power Engineering
Good Books on Power Engineering
(OP)
Hello All,
I am a relatively new engineer working for a power company, and I am looking for a good practical book on power distribution engineering. I have a text book on power systems, but it is VERY old, and mostly focuses on transmission and generation, and I work in distribution. Therefore, I find this book to be pretty useless to me in my job. I try to learn as much as I can from others at work, but I mostly don't even know what to ask. I am looking for something that is easy to understand and practical. If you have any suggestions, please send them my way. Thanks in advance!

RE: Good Books on Power Engineering
The first book is the Electric Power Distribution Handbook by T. A. Short. The book is very comprehensive and packed with hard to find information. It is a great reference and kind of like the old Westinghouse "Green" Distribution engineering book. The link to a description

Another recently published book that I would also recommend is Electric Power Distribution System Engineering, Second Edition by Turan Gonen. This book is in the second edition after being out of print for many years. It is also very good, but more of a textbook.

CRC Press also has several other good books on distribution engineering which are written on more specific aspects of distribution engineering including reliability, automation and analysis.

Gonen was my professor. He's a good guy. I'm glad to see you recommending his book. I thought it was just for his classes.
