(OP)
I am modelling a wedge indentation problem using ABAQUS/standard. I am using a user defined element subroutine (which is tested and works very well). Abaqus does not allow to use surface to surface contact option which is better at this kind of problems. i am using node to surface contact (indenter is rigid) with the stabilize option. The convergence is pretty slow at the begining and the job stops in 1e-6mm deformation because of severe discontunities. Can anyone recomend me some contact options for this kind of problems?

Thanks

RE: wedge indentation problem problem/

Use linear elements if you can as quadrilaterals have problems with the mid-side node in contact. Also use contact controls, automatic tolerances. Try and reduce the non-linearity in the overall problem too, such as plasticity and large displacement, but if that can't be avoided then use Explicit.
