Multi-body parts

Multi-body parts

Multi-body parts

(OP)
Hey all,
I have been trying to learn Catia here for the past week or so and have a question.  I usually use SolidWorks or Unigraphics and in them you are able to creat mulit-body parts that intersect, and later combine them.  To clarify, in SolidWorks there is a check box when extruding a sketch that says 'merge result'. If you un-check it then you end up with 2 bodys, intersecting or not.   I can then add features to either body independently and later combine them to make 1 solid body.  Im sure there is a way to do this in Catia I just am having no luck doing it.   Any help is much appreciated.

RE: Multi-body parts

In the Specification Tree, Select your existing "PartBody". Then go to Main Menu/Insert/Body.

Remember to always "Define In Work Object", otherwise you new sketches/features will go on the wrong body and I have found no way to drag-and-drop features between bodies.

Catia is no where near as friendly as SolidWorks for this stuff. I would prepare yourself for a lot of missing multi-body features in Catia.

Thanks Ken.

Peter,
Yeah i understand they are boolean operations, as they are in UG, but i didn't know how/where to define it. Thanks for making it so clear for me neutral

RE: Multi-body parts

- Draw solid in PartBody.
- Add new Body (Body.2) and draw solid to add/subtract/etc.
- Select first PartBody and then "Define in Work Object"
- Select Body.2 and right click, bottom of menu "Body.2 object"

There are all your boob operations. Or under the TOOLS pull down menu, you'll see them there also.
