PACK AND GO PROBLEM

PACK AND GO PROBLEM

PACK AND GO PROBLEM

(OP)
Has any one else noted that pack and go is not completely replacing references when copying files to a new location. I have found that some of the nested assemblies/parts and associated drawings are still trying to use the old location (a nasty little thing if it goes un noticed). Before I forward this issue on to my VAR I wanted to see if it was just my system doing it.

RE: PACK AND GO PROBLEM

I've had the problem with references in assembly drawing not updating when the complete file is packed and renamed to a new location.

I've been able to adjust some parts in the new assembly that also change parts in the old and visa versa.  This issues is seriously affecting my ability to rapidly prototype units. Has anyone seen this before and if so what was done to stop this from happening!!!!

Note working on SP.0 and without tech support!!

RE: PACK AND GO PROBLEM

That would be totally unacceptable to the way I do things.  I take it this is with v2008 and not v2007?  I'm on v2007 and do this all the time with no issues.

I have only noticed it with 2008 sp4

It may have been the whole time on 2008 and I just diddn't catch it until now. Its a real pain in the rump, especially since I have created quite a few "standard assemblies and drawings" using DriveWorks express. Espress will only save clones in the working directory.

RE: PACK AND GO PROBLEM

pdelnet,

Do you have suppressed components in your assembly?

Perhaps Pack and Go is not transfering them.

NOPE - it seems to be the reference to drawings, the drawings and models are getting copied over but the reference is still pointing to the original directory for the drawing.

Nasty, Nasty, Nasty

oh did I mention the PITA factor.

RE: PACK AND GO PROBLEM

Has anyone found a solution or workaround for this issue?

RE: PACK AND GO PROBLEM

I haven't had any issues with Pack and Go.  Do you have the checkbox checked on "Flatten to single folder"?  What about the checkbox "Include Drawings"?

RE: PACK AND GO PROBLEM

I have fond this to be a big problem for a long time, definitely in 2007 and 2008. Its a real pain because less experienced engineers have managed to make a mess of the original project files, luckily enough we had backups, but this is a real serious problem. No when we copy files we have to double check the references from the file open dialog. As a failsafe I usually rename the folder where the original resides just simply placing an underscore at the start of the name. Then when I open the copied files, if a missing reference/file dialog appears I repoint it to the copied file. However, this can be very time consuming especially if there are alot of models and also stuff in context. Thats why I open all part files first and then assemblies.

Anyhow, thats my 2 cents worth.

RE: PACK AND GO PROBLEM

I have been afraid of this happening and have been checking my references after opening my "packed-and-goed?" assemblies.  Havent had the references change though.
