Funny Specification Requirement

Funny Specification Requirement

Funny Specification Requirement

(OP)
I about fell out of my chair laughing when one of my fellow estimators found this in a specifications for a job in West Virginia.  We called our tech division to see if we could get a Kevlar vest for our pipe.  See item 15 towards the top of the page...

RE: Funny Specification Requirement

Probably not a bad idea. Just check the road signs around the project. One thing I've seen in the pass is that during strike or someone gets laid off there is good possibility that anything that is above ground could get a bullet through it.

RE: Funny Specification Requirement

I once hand an inquiry about a bullet proof tank truck.  I think they were worried about the people who don't like the oil companies.

RE: Funny Specification Requirement

tnboy82,

actually, there is nothing really funny about it at all.  i have participated in meetings whereby discussions centered on protection of the river crossing.

perhaps the best course of action is for the state to allow hunting in the area with only a bow and arrow.  i know, not likely.

good luck!

RE: Funny Specification Requirement

Wouldn't be the first time, nor the last time that a pipe has been shot at. Perhaps the most newsworthy in recent years was the Alaska Pipeline shooting in 2001. Estimating jobs is one thing. Keeping pipelines running is another.
