For anyone interested, there is a new book just published on the history of CAD titled:

By David E. Weisberg

The book is available in its entirety online at:

Very interesting book, John!
definitely brings back the memories... the Applicon stylus/tablet, CV4X, moving to UG when CV5X came out...
Thanks for the link!

Really date yourself by reading chapter 21, Miscellaneous Companies, and see how any names you recognize.

I have heard of 20 of the 22 companies in that chapter alone.

Cadds5, Applicon, now NX. I can remember thinking how cool I was to make my way through Cadds without the menus. Same with Applicon.

I feel so ancient. <g>

RE: A not so brief History of CAD...

I am ancient....I started on CADDS 3, thought CADDS 4X was the best it ever could get, then came UG and ProE. Cant wait to see NX6. Hopefully old dogs can still learn new tricks!
