Im trying to get engine data from a vehicle( rpm, voltage, pressure and temp.)  I need to display these values along with other sensor readings to an LCD screen.  Ive been told use j1587 protocal, but im not sure how to do this.  Im thinking the signal is mulitplexed, but not sure.  Does anyone know how to get this information and filter out only the information I need?

Thanks
Ken

this isnt something i want to check by having to hook up a computer and run a program.  i want to be able to show the engine rpm, voltage, pressure, and temp on a LCD screen at all times.  i will be monitoring 8 other sensors with a PLC and displaying there information to an LCD screen but i also want to display the 4 engine data reading along with them.

I found an adaptor that plugs into the data bus and allows a PLC to request what information it wants.  It converts the signal to MODBUT RTU so the PLC can read.  Here is the link its a Canadian company.
