Chilled water pipe thermal-break for support

Chilled water pipe thermal-break for support

Ive been tasked to find some sort of commercial pre-built support/stand system for chilled water pipe that has some sort of thermal break. Any one have any suggestions.

If nothing like that is out there what ideas do you have or do you use.

Right now a lot of are stands have been welded to the pipe then some insulation run down the stand 20-26 inches. My boss wants something better to isolate the stand from the pipe.

Thanks in advanced.

RE: Chilled water pipe thermal-break for support

I did a little checking on our extensive chilled water system. They essentially used two thermal break materials, Transite or cork depending on the loads. The pipe insulation is cork or Foamglas. Most of the larger pipe is held in hangers and the hanger is partially insulated as you describe. We also have a lot of external hangers.

Our Traniste was the old style, cement/asbestos.

Inside-building type environment or outside?  Large-bore chilled water piping or small?  Would plastic support columns be feasible?
