Measuring Exhaust Flow through a specific Exhaust System

Measuring Exhaust Flow through a specific Exhaust System

Measuring Exhaust Flow through a specific Exhaust System

(OP)
I need to determine the exhaust mass flow through an exhaust system with only the following equipment available:

(1)    UEGO based AFR sensor with the appropriate conditioning to measure the air-fuel ratio
(2)    Compressed air supply with adequate pressure regulation equipment and a valve to meter air from the compressed air supply
(3)    Mass flow meter ( 0 to 10 grams per second)

How do I set this equipment up to measure the total exhaust flow through the exhaust system?

RE: Measuring Exhaust Flow through a specific Exhaust System

"air-fuel" suggests to me that you're measuring the exhaust from an engine ... yes?  IC or turbine ??  normally aspirated or supercharged ?? (compressed air supply ?)

RE: Measuring Exhaust Flow through a specific Exhaust System

from your other posts, this could be a diesel.  it looks like the density of the charge air is easily calculated.  you know the engine displacement and the engine speed, so you know the volume flow out of the engine.  with the fuel consumption you know how to determine the mass into the engine (and hence the mass flow out of it)

RE: Measuring Exhaust Flow through a specific Exhaust System

Dumb question,
If you have a mass flow meter and you want to measure mass flow, why don't you just do that?
Who cares about all the extraneous data?
