PALM vs VISOR

PALM vs VISOR

PALM vs VISOR

(OP)
Considering buying a Palm V but Visor prices are considerably better. Visor claims Palm OS.  Any experience to help my make my buy decision?

RE: PALM vs VISOR

I've had both. I like the Visor (Handspring) better, but don't really know why. The Visor line is cheaper (price wise), and when I bought, the complete Visor line came with a USB cradle, where as the Palms came with a Serial one. You can get the "other" cradle from either if you want to pay extra or wait for it.

The Handspring folks seem like they beat Palm to the punch more too. The next greatest device is usually by Handspring (ie: Handspring Trio), as appossed to Palm (Windoze CE is different).

But, keep in mind that the Handsprings run the actual Palm OS, so is Palm changes the OS, the Handspring is then behind till they rewrite it (or pay Palm for it).

Also, I haven't kept up, but Handspring was in the process of purchasing Palm. Maybe that tells you something about the situation.

Either way, if you do not have any "palm" device, you need one, and I think you would be very happy with a Handspring Visor, as I am.

Its like this (if you don't know). A Visor (Palm) is definetly something you DON'T need, but once you have and use one, you can't live without one. It is that cool...

RE: PALM vs VISOR

Just to add my two cents... I've got a HP Jornada... I chose this over palm because of the WINCE OS... It has a windows OS and came with Excel, Word and Acroread and much more... and when linked to my computer it syncronizes with my outlook so that my contacts are complete between the two... I can even get my e-mail and read it later on my Pocket PC...

Just so you have more to consider...

RE: PALM vs VISOR

Just in case anybody is wondering, with a Palm or Handspring device, you CAN read and write Excel and Word files, just like TORGON does with his Jornada. So you DO NOT need a WinCE device to do it.

Of course, you have to buy "additional" programs for the Palm world device, but you Jornada will cost more anyway, so it might be a wash. You compare and decide.

Also, look at the memory in each "type" of system. WinCE devices need MORE memory for their OS and their Apps, so an 8mb WinCE device may limit you compared to a 8mb Palm.
