Centered vs eccentric Fuel Oil Butterfly Valves

Centered vs eccentric Fuel Oil Butterfly Valves

Centered vs eccentric Fuel Oil Butterfly Valves

(OP)
Our supplier of remote controlled stainless steel butterfly valves made a mistake and sent us centered instead of eccentric butterfly valves used in the oil/chemical cargo lines.
I know that there is the wear issue but what are the real dangers in accepting to use these valves so that we do not delay the installation?
These are for a chemical tanker so I want to be extra careful.

RE: Centered vs eccentric Fuel Oil Butterfly Valves

I strongly suggest that you check what approvals and what approval authority is required for certifying the vessel and the valves.

The first and largest stumblestone is that the valves can't be approved or does not have correct and necessary certifications, references and construction for this type of ship use, or are not a type builder or end user will accept.

Some chemical tankers owners/operators do not only specify a certain type of construction for valves, but have detailed demands of how different parts of the valve have to be constructed.

Down-days for valve maintenance is not what a chemical ship operator is aiming at.

Besides wear, shutoff leakage could be a problem.  If it is a control valve, throttling could be a problem.  Make them provide the valves purchased.

you also need to consider the chemical resistance of the liner
