Hey,
For you folks running SP 4.0 I would like to know how it's running and its stability. We're thinking of updating our SP 3.1 release

RE: SW2008 SP4.0

Colin,

I give it a thumbs-up.  It solved some awfully annoying problems and I haven't had it crash yet.

RE: SW2008 SP4.0

No problems so far ... but then I never had a problem with previous SP's either.

cheers

RE: SW2008 SP4.0

I updated to SP4.0 last week. The only big complaint so far is that the annoying thing of turning the sketches to "show" (when modifying a sheet metal part) is back (it was fixed in SP3.0).

RE: SW2008 SP4.0

I had the problem with sheet metal sketches becoming visible a while back.  I have updated to 4.0 and have not seen that issue resurface, at least yet (knock on wood).  As far as 4.0 goes, it hasn't crashed on me, and it took care of a very annoying problem that we were experiencing a lot.  It was definitely worth the update.

RE: SW2008 SP4.0

Pack-and-Go does not function properly.  The new (renamed) drawings do NOT retain their references.  Our VAR replicated this problem and SW has acknowledged this as a bug.  Here is SolidWork's official response:

"This is a known problem and already been submitted as a Problem Report to the SolidWorks Development team. The reference number for this issue is SPR 437058. You will be notified when this issue has been resolved.

When you run pack and go and rename the components, the drawings of the sub assembly and its components will reference the old documents. Please note that this happens only with the drawings of the sub assembly its components - other drawings (of main assembly and main assembly components) work fine. Unfortunately, there is no workaround for this problem.  You will have to manually link them to the new documents."

This is a major problem for us.  We just recently updated to SP4.0.  Luckily, the '09 pre-release is available.  PNG does function properly on '09.

RE: SW2008 SP4.0

I have been using SolidWorks 2008 SP 4.0 since the early version was started. I know I should not be using early version for production work. Everything is good for us.

"If it ain't broke, you just haven't looked hard enough." Fix it anyway.

RE: SW2008 SP4.0

No real issues here, Colin.  I still get the occasional crash from the Windows Explorer issue, but I think I may have hacked that one this week.  All in all this release is pretty good.

RE: SW2008 SP4.0

msjames, do you have PDMWorks?  I don't even use Pack-and-Go anymore because you can do the same thing with PDMWorks without opening the assembly.  All you do is right click and click "Copy Tree..."  Saves a lot of time, since you don't have to wait for the assembly to open first.

gopack13,
Where's "Copy Tree" you mentioned? I RMB clicked on an assembly in our vault and saw nothing.

Thanks

RE: SW2008 SP4.0

It's right under copy.  Do you have Workgroup or Enterprise?  We have Enterprise, so that may be why.  Otherwise it might be a setting in the PDMWorks Administration.

Workgroup See attachment for options when RMB click.
