analysis and design curved bridges with some line branches

(OP)
Dear friends,

I am facing some investigations of analysis and design curved bridges with some branches that transfer line branches (i.e. cars, pedestrians,...) from a main superstructure to different levels (something likes spaghetti-junction or fly-over).
I want to learn the structures, especially in analysis and design the connection between the two line branches.
I've tried to find relevant materials and web pages but I haven't found them (it seems to be very difficult to get). Please could you kindly give me some advice about that.
Thank you very much for your attention and help,
With kind regards,

Mark

RE: analysis and design curved bridges with some line branches

Hi Mark,

What you ask depends on what bridge concept you have.

One philosophy is to isolate your structures as best you can and as such your end details must reflect you design philosophy.
If your end supports are not pier columns, but the adjacent structure, you will need to include the effects of all loads and combinations on the supporting structure.

For complex road surface alignments it is best to model the structure in finite element.  As well, with these type of structures, there are physical restrictions with respect to post-tensioning so this must be considered along with staged construction.

I would recommend an engineer knowledgeable and experienced in this area to help you with this type of project.

Good luck:)
