pipe wall thickness

Hi everyone,i am having problem calculating the wall thickness of a stainless steel pipe of a thick wall pipe (d/t<20) for a subsea application, a subsea manifold to be precise. Please can anyone furnish me with procedure to calculate it?

RE: pipe wall thickness

What's the code, or do you just need a general formula for pressure stress in a thick walled pipe?

hi BigInch,the code is 31.8

RE: pipe wall thickness

No special provisions for D/t < 20 that I know of, but my coyp of the code is 2002.

why would you use 31.8 for manifold?

I would use 31.3 for wall thickness and SIF's and use PD8010 for stress calculations.

These are my personal views/opinions and not of my employer's.

RE: pipe wall thickness

If its on a gas pipeline, B31.8 is a valid choice.
