Shepard Niles Crane Hoist Net Weight

Shepard Niles Crane Hoist Net Weight

Shepard Niles Crane Hoist Net Weight

(OP)
I have a Shepard Niles 10 Ton Crane Hoist at a government plant and need to have an estimated weight of the hoist for an impact analysis.  The manufacturer says it does not have the weight recorded.  Any ideas where I can get net weight of a 10 Ton Crane Hoist (estimated, since I cannot find data for my specific one)?

RE: Shepard Niles Crane Hoist Net Weight

The weight depends a lot on the type of crane.  Jib Crane, Wall Crane, Single girder bridge crane with underrunning hoist, double girder bridge crane with top running trolley.

For rough estimates of bridge cranes, the Whiting Crane Handbook gives some estimates of weights for the various components.  It's out of print but they are around with a little searching.

From my experience Shepard Niles usually had pretty good records on their cranes.  I have gotten info on ones that our shipyard has from back in the 1940s.

Thank you for the quick response.  It is a single girder bridge crane w/ underrunning hoist, model 0547 serial 101507. I have obtained a Whiting Crane Handbook that I am referring to, thanks for the suggestion.  Also had contacted Shepard Niles with the Model and Serial number, but they say they did not record the weight (they had also refurbished the crane recently).
