Mimic on the control panels and busbar colour coding

Mimic on the control panels and busbar colour coding

Mimic on the control panels and busbar colour coding

(OP)
Colour coding of mimic on the Control panels / desks is widely practiced in Substations / power stations.

I am not sure the basis for the same such as IEC / IEEE references etc.
Any help?

Thanks.

RE: Mimic on the control panels and busbar colour coding

We always did it because it reduced confusion. But we only did it where the arrangement might become confused.
We also consitered what someone's thinking processes might be at 3am, with a hangover.

RE: Mimic on the control panels and busbar colour coding

There is no code or standard on the mimic color that I know of. Reasons  put forth by cranky108 are the primary drivers, for clarity and therefore enhancing safety.

RE: Mimic on the control panels and busbar colour coding

As far as color, we just used the same colors the powerpool used on there maps.

I have seen National Grid (UK) using Black for 132kV and Green for 33kV OHLs in their power system layout drawings. I find similar practice exists in many other countries in the world including Mid East where I am currently and India.

I think there should be a common code European or American (Like we have code for Protective relay device numbering -IEEE/ANSI C37.2).

RE: Mimic on the control panels and busbar colour coding

If there is a common code I'm sure several of us would like to know what it is.
