Copy Paste problems in Autocad

Copy Paste problems in Autocad

Copy Paste problems in Autocad

(OP)
On one certain drawing received from a customer, I am having problems using "Edit, Copy" and "Edit, Paste" to copy parts of this drawing to another.  When I perform this action, nothing gets pasted to the new drawing, and indeed won't work within the drawing in question either.

Is there some setting that is preventing the copy?

"Pasteclip" appears on the command line when I try to paste, with no errors, just nothing gets pasted.

I've tried on other drawings, and all is OK, so it seems associated with one particular drawing only.

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

Thanks.

I'm on 2009, but I'm not sure about the customer, or the people who supplied it to them - could be an older version I guess.

RE: Copy Paste problems in Autocad

Have you checked the scaling? Maybe it's too small?
Try paste special?

Check for Blocks that need to be exploded, or Layers that are Off or Frozen.

Did you try a Zoom Extents?

Thanks guys - but no luck - all layers are on, non frozen, zoom extents does not work.  paste special does not work either.

A real puzzle!

RE: Copy Paste problems in Autocad

Hi,

can you attach the puzzle? As 2009.dwg and 2004.dwg?

RE: Copy Paste problems in Autocad

I could copy/paste everything except the block "Grundrahme-VA" which misbehaved for some reason.

RE: Copy Paste problems in Autocad

Did you do so using "Edit copy," "edit paste" like you might if pasting into another drawing?

RE: Copy Paste problems in Autocad

spidajdn,
it is a mechanical.dwg
I tested with the 2004.dwg with ADT2004.

1. "_audit" -> 84 errors
2. I could reproduce your problem with "_COPYBASE"
3. so I copied step by step like Miss Marple...winky smile
4. delinquent: "JORDAHLSCH-JM_K50-30-Schnitt" -> _explode -> I had proxy warning -> erase proxies -> OK

Maybe that is the way for you...?

RE: Copy Paste problems in Autocad

I used edit-copy and edit-paste just like you said.  In fact it behaved the same way if you use edit-cut and edit-paste or any of the other shortcuts Ctrl-X / Ctrl-V etc.  Within the drawing or between drawings did not matter.  It simply refused to copy/paste that block.  I did not get to try exploding it and trying each entity.  The proxy entities I could copy/paste without trouble.

RE: Copy Paste problems in Autocad

(OP)
OK - not sure if I follow all of the above, but I've exploded all entities by selecting everything, then did it again.

After this, I'm able to edit copy, edit paste...but I guess this wasy I've lost any block groupings, but at least I'm able to copy!!

Many thanks!!

RE: Copy Paste problems in Autocad

This is a known error in AutoCAD.  Did you download the patch provided by Exxit?

Zuccus

RE: Copy Paste problems in Autocad

What if you paste it as a block...?

RE: Copy Paste problems in Autocad

(OP)
No - I didn't apply the patch as the version of the current file was more recent.

Yes you can insert it as a block into a new drawing - this is one way I've found to get around it.

Thanks for your thoughts.
