Test equipment

Test equipment

(OP)
Hi, in the lab I work we want to buy some test equipment,
such as Network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope to perform RF tests. What would be your suggestion(Agilent, Tecktronix..?).We want good stuff but not the most expensive.

RE: Test equipment

The stuff you're talking about is already mucho expensive, so the degree of expense is a laughable point... a SpecAn with useful tools installed will be $50k, an O-scope $20k, etc.  When it comes to such major purchases, you need to have all of the companies bring in the contending machines and play with them over several weeks in your own lab.  They all have their own unique quirks, and it will be up to you to decide which ones you can live with.  Trust me, no matter what machine you pick there will always be someone who has a list as long as their arm with cons.

RE: Test equipment

First question - what frequency range do you want to cover for the RF equipment?
Second question - the "good stuff" is sometimes the most expensive, so sometimes there are tradeoffs. Are you looking at new equipment, used but still-being-made equipment, or used no-longer-in production equipment?

In general, for RF equipment, Agilent is the most popular choice. For oscilloscopes - Tektronix. In General!   With more specifics of what kind of product/frequency range/equipment purpose better pointers to specific equipment brands might be made.

RE: Test equipment

There are companies that specalize in selling used test equipment. These same companies are often involved in the test equipment rental business too.
