How to design a concrete sonoviod slab?

How to design a concrete sonoviod slab?

How to design a concrete sonoviod slab?

(OP)
Does anyone know where I can obtain resources on how to design a concrete sonoviod slab?

I have a 22" deep slab with sonovoid tubes inside the concrete (between the 2 layers of slab reinforcements). This slab is in an old building and I don't really see anything in my local (Los Angeles, CA) building code or my engineering textbooks on how to design a sonovoid slab.

Is there anyone that can give me some tips on how to analyze the slab. Does anyone know if there are any design guides currently avaliable for sonovoid slabs? Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

RE: How to design a concrete sonoviod slab?

Check the depth of the compression block.  If it is less than the thickness of the "flange" above the voids just treat it as a regular slab (obviously with less self weight).  If the compression block is greater than the thickness of the "flange" above the voids treat it as a T-beam.
You should have both of those available to you in your concrete text.

I would like to slightly amend my previous post to say that you will need to check shear to not exceed phiVc/2.  I don't believe you will get the benefit of using the full phiVc for this condition.

But, it may qualify as joist construction per ACI 8.11.  That will depend on the geometry of your slab.

All good advice by SEIT.
