Displacement during earthquake!

Displacement during earthquake!

Displacement during earthquake!

(OP)
Hi every body
Suppose a vertical line next to a tower which is connectd to the tower at 50ft above ground.
if we support line from platform(due to some vendor limitation we cannt support pipe from tower),we will face a range of over load because of displacement in high levels, what is your idea?
regards

RE: Displacement during earthquake!

?  Do you have a sketch and a question?  How does the lateral from an earthquake fit into your scenario?

RE: Displacement during earthquake!

Hit the vendor with a big stick untill he tells you ... why he designed a tower that can't hold a piece of pipe.

or,

Locate a column with some pipe supports next to the tower.

actually we can support from platforms but it has about 2 inch  movement in earthquake while tower has only 1 inch movement!
when i put a guide or stop support with 1 inch movement,we have over loads on nozzles!!

and another thing the mentioned platform is on the different structure of tower ladder and platform structure!!

RE: Displacement during earthquake!

Adding guides and stops genreally only makes the stress situation worse.  Allow as much movement as possible.  Try substituting the guide for a slide plate.  Calculate the maximum displacement and allow the pipe to slide that distance in any direction.

jozm,
You need to consider whether the two structures are "in Phase" or "out of phase". You could be dealing with either 1" or 3" differential movement.

thank you all
BigInch,thanks for your comments
but as you know without stop and guide system is going to have over loads on the nozzles.
and that is the our problem.

RE: Displacement during earthquake!

Its even harder to get flexibility with guides and stops.  You sound like a clever guy, so I have faith you can do it.

By using some special type of dummy legs,I knitted 2 or 3 portion of system to each other and increased the solidity so there is no overload problem in earthquake.
