Outdoor Tennis Court
Outdoor Tennis Court
(OP)
Dear all,
I would kindly ask for an information please.
What would be a suitable air temperature control in the outdoor tennis court located in hot and humid climate (Middle East)?
What is the efficiency of such system? Any case studies?
Besides fan forced outdoor air over a cooling coil, I do not see any other alternative.Cooling devices would be installed around the court.
Please advise.
Thanks.

Really, given that the players will be sweating profusely anyway, the best thing is to just shelter the players from direct sun and maintain the air velocity.

If you are serious, revisit Kelvin-Planck statement of the 2nd law. In simple terms, did you ever try operating your refrigerator keeping the door open?

Quark, I would recommend high velocity floor grilles in the playing arena as it will bring more spectators!

"Middle east is known for humdities of 80% or more.So evapoartive coolers and mist spray fans would not work."
Excuse me? I am in Iraq, and humidity is quite low. ASHRAE lists 1% design temps of 113 DB & 73 WB. That equates to 13.8% RH. Evap coolers work great as I have seen them in action. Check your facts before you post.

Fans/wind accros tenniscourt.. do not forget to install a wind sock.
I like sak9 his idea, but only when weman are playing.
Depending on where you are in the middle east hum. can be very high. Been in Saudi and Khobar, Jeddah are high than again Riyadh is low.

My apologies for making a general comment. My comment was based on experience in the UAE where I had to turn my wind screen wipers on a few times in peak summer evenings because of condensation
RE: Outdoor Tennis Court
Well, the humidity levels in some parts of Middle East can get very high - very difficult to generalise, though.

Evaporative coolers work if they are indoors if humidity is not a concern(the insulating effect of the construction makes the difference).
RE: Outdoor Tennis Court
Imbed PEX tubing in the court and run cold water (controlled to be warmer than dewpoint... install dewpoint sensors) and chill the slab.
The slab should provide a radiant cooling effect to the players. Throw in a some shading from the sun and you'll be the best you can be... without going inside.
For the spectators, install large 'man cooler fans'. Evap coolers (discussed above) or enclosed booths with AC.

How about personal climate chambers ala Danger! Will Robinson.
Those misting things still work in high humidity. People would explode if there was no evaporative cooling in humid areas. 80 is still a good 20 less than 100.

For the spectators... see above post.
