Distance from discharge flange to 90 dgr bend

Distance from discharge flange to 90 dgr bend

Hello pump spesialists

We will instal a horizontal ballast pump with capasity of 1500 m3/hr at 23 mtr head, pumping sea water.
The suction pipe is 20" and discharge is 16".
The hight from the discharge flange to the roof is 0.90 mtr. I remember reading somewhere that there is a required distance from the discharge flange with straight pipe before you should connect the bend.
Can anyone here advise what that distance should be?

thanks in advance

ChiefengO,

Please remember that the same people that tell you

"That there is a required distance from the discharge flange with straight pipe before you should connect the bend"

Are the same people that tell you that mathematically a Bumble Bee cannot fly.

hihi, See your point

Mathematically you need it, but in practice it will not make a difference.

The only restriction would be on the welds.  There are discussion on this all the time. The concensus is not to either weld the 90 to the flange or allow a short piece of pie (a pup) that is long enough that the heat effected zones from the welds do not overlap.
