International Industrial Press Companies

(OP)
Hello,

I have an interview coming up with AIDA engineering. I was wondering if anyone knew of similar sized international press manufacturers who might be considered their competition. I checked GlobalSpec and it came up with 500+ industrial press manufacturers. Any help would be appreciated! Also, if you have any experience working with AIDA and their presses, any comments would also be appreciated.

RE: International Industrial Press Companies

There are probably only two press manufacturers that are truly in the same category as Aida: Schuler (http://www.schulergroup.com/en/01_Unternehmen/index.php)and Komatsu (http://www.komatsusanki.co.jp/en/index.html).  All three of these companies offer a complete range of presses for forming sheet metal and bulk parts (hot forging, cold forging, etc.) and have a global sales and support network.

Now, there are a significant number of press manufacturers that make competitive products, which is why GlobalSpec shows 500+ hits.  I am not as familiar with the Asian manufacturers (China, Taiwan), but companies like Minster, Sutherland Presses, and Seyi make a range of presses for sheet metal forming.  Now that Schuler and Muller Weingarten have merged, the only forging press manufacturer that I can think of is Sumitomo.  There is an Italian company as well, but the name escapes me right now.

Thanks TVP! That's great information. The Italian company you were thinking of doesn't happen to be Balconi (http://www.balconi.it/en/azienda.htm), does it?

RE: International Industrial Press Companies

No, the company I was trying to remember is Colombo Agostino.  They manufacture both stamping and forging presses.  Their website is http://www.colomboagostino.com/eng/home.htm

To further expand on my previous response, companies like Lasco and Dieffenbacher make state-of-the-art hydraulic presses, but since they don't offer mechanical presses, I don't equate them to the big 3 (Aida, Schuler, Komatsu).  Similarly, Feintool and Bruderer are very specialized in presses for fineblanking and high-speed blanking/forming, respectively.  Also, I was excluding screw presses, but you may want to familiarize yourself with them as well.  The following links are for a number of companies that manufacture some type of metal forming press:

Hi TVP, just wanted to thank you again for your help! Komatsu came up during my interview, and I was glad I knew about it beforehand. I got a call from AIDA yesterday and they offered me a job! Knowing that sort of background going in helped me keep calm. Thanks again!

RE: International Industrial Press Companies

Congratulations on the job offer.  I'm glad that the information was helpful.
